Tsunami

Introduction

I am focusing on writing my essay, in a calm and ambient room. When suddenly my mobile vibrates violently signifying a call alert, for a moment I am left with an increased heart beat and loss of tranquility completely. The sense of panic moves me back to a time when the mishap of Tsunami happened in Thailand; year 2004. The feeling is nothing compared to panic, and terror felt during a natural disaster, imagine approximately 150,000 people were dead or went missing in the same day. As per U.S. Geological Survey USGS, the energy released by the earth in a Tsunami is equal to 23,000 Atomic bombs equivalent to the one dropped in Hiroshima- () (National Geographic News, 2005a).

About Tsunami

Natural tragedies are always hard to bear and leave an everlasting effect on human life style. Tsunami is originally from a Japanese word which means “Harbor Wave”. As per regional research Tsunami occurred due to earth quake in the middle of the Indian Ocean, volcanic eruption, and land sliding, including the meteorite impacts plus any disturbances caused above or below the water. The massive energy that increases the force of normal sea waves; they hit the shore wiping out not only any anthromorphic existence but almost whole of the cities. According to USGS (Earthquake monitoring worldwide organization), the magnitude of the earthquake recorded was 9.0 in the Indian Ocean. The area affected most is the west coast of Indonesian Island -Sumatra. There was a vigorous movement in the Earth's crust commonly known as the tectonic plates. These tectonic plates shifted the force to the ocean water which busted into every direction with a speed smashing away everything.

Historical Facts

The historical happening of such earthquakes in the sea is comparatively very uncommon in the Indian Ocean. It is said that Tsunami arises in a greater ratio in "The Pacific Ocean". Even if we assume the above mentioned the fact to be is true, every ocean is at the risk of the wrath of Tsunami and many surrounding countries are at risk. The process of land sliding is ongoing for approximately a millennium, the plates in the earth crust push against one another. Estimates from the USGS conclude that, the Tsunami occurred on December 26, 2004 was a result of more than 600 miles long dislocating the sea floor over the force of possibly 10 yards horizontally and quite a few of them vertically. Figuratively, there are almost trillion tons of rock segments that slide to 100 miles causing the planet earth to tremble. This is the largest distortion of rock segments in 40 year history of earth. Scientist have found the presence of earthquake asteroids that caused massive destruction in the past, it wiped away everything except the mountains almost 3.5 billion years ago (National Geographic News, 2005b).
