Part 1

At the 3 million air traffic movements, the number of terminal passengers will be 321505 (thousand).

At the 2 million air traffic movements, the number of terminal passengers will be 189305 (thousand).

Data and data sources

The collection of available facts and figures that can be manipulated and analyzed is called data. The different available sources from the data can be retrieved is called data sources. The data sources include different websites, journals and international databases etc which provides authentic data for the researchers to do analysis.

Air transport movements over the time

The air transport movements over the time since 1980 and 2010, i.e. a 30 year time are shows an overall increasing trend. An important thing that needs to be analyzed is that there is a very few fluctuations which says that the over the time, the increase in the air transport movements in increasing very smoothly till 2008 and from the trend it can be seen that after 2008, it has started to fall a little till 2010. So, the actual and reliable forecasting cannot be done with the available data because after two to three years a clear trend could be sort out which would give better forecasting results.

Similarly, the terminal passenger's data is also increasing with very few fluctuations over the time since 1980 till 2010. A little difference between the air transport movements and terminal departure is that the terminal departure is increasing with a more impressive rate as compared with the air transport system. But as like air transport system it has also started to decline after 2008 which shows a normal trend in both the variables.

Air traffic movements and terminal passengers (scatter plot)

The scatter plot of both the variables shows an almost linear trend which proved to be an important and significant part of the data where the data gives linear trends because the chances of errors and forecasting goes very less if we get a regular and expected trend.

The correlation coefficient and the coefficient of determination between “air transport movements” and “terminal passengers”

Statistics shows the correlation between two variables and indicates the strength of the link with a criterion of relationship, called the correlation coefficient. This ratio is always denoted by a Latin letter R, can take values between -1 and +1, and if the value is closer to 1, it indicates a strong connection, and if close to 0, then the weak.

The correlation between “air transport movements” and “terminal passengers” is found out to be 0.994163. The theory above shows that this linear association of both the variables is extremely significant i.e. both heavily depends upon each other, In other words, it can be interpreted that as the terminal passengers increases, the air transport movements will also increase will almost the same ratio.

The regression line

The regression line between the “air transport movements” and “terminal passengers” is y = 132.2x - ...
