U.S. Involvement in Iraq War

Introduction

The decision of getting the United States involved in the Iraq war was initiated in the year, 2003. The decision was made by George W. Bush when he launched an invasion against Iraq on March 19, 2003. It is believed by the natives of America that the Iraq war had a negative impact on the country and the government should not have taken such a decision to involve in the political matters of other countries. On the other hand, it is also believed that people involvement in the Iraq war benefited the oil industry of United States of America (Carlisle, pp. 108). The main thesis statement that is underlined in relation to the involvement of United States in the Iraq war could be specifically presented as, “The U.S. invasion of Iraq has given negative repercussions for our country all over the world.” This is the underlined idea which will be discussed in this essay with the help of the causes of this war and the effects that the United States experienced after this war.

Reasons of the United States Involvement in the Iraq War

There were some specific reasons due to which the government of United States decided to go for a war against Iraq. The decision of invading Iraq was taken by George W. Bush during his presidential period in the United States. The most significant reasons or causes of getting involved in the Iraq war were observed through the State of the Union address and other speeches of George W. Bush. The most significant causes of United States involvement in the Iraq war are discussed as follows.

Eliminating Weapons of Mass Destruction

The first reason of getting involved in the Iraq war was to eliminate Saddam's weapons of mass destruction. This was the most common reason that was give by President Bush for the involvement of United States in the Iraq war. He claimed that this action was taken by the government of United States to reduce the risk of the weapon of mass destruction attack on the United States. If this would have been the primary reason of getting involved in the Iraq war, then the President must have used the available resources like dollars, troops and diplomacy in affective manner but this was not done by the President.

United States of America were posed by much greater threats of a weapon of mass destruction attack by Pakistan and North Korea for some reasons. Pakistan is a nuclear power and both these countries had much more powerful and destructive equipments as compared to Iraq. If weapon of mass destruction would have been the primary source for getting involved in this war, then Pakistan and North Korea would have been considered the most destructive opponents as compared to Iraq (Mason, pp. 78). Observing these facts about the threats of weapon of mass destruction, this decision of getting United States involved in the Iraq war was made by President Bush.
