Introduction

Leader is a man playing a key role in the organizations as he is the one to the direction, control and modify the activities of other members of the organization to achieve group goals. Being a leader means being able to make the greatest contribution to the achievement of a common goal, to help others believe in its reach and help them to have the satisfaction of achievement within the organization. If a particular group is aimed to perform a task, its leader has to a greater extent than others to be able to implement it. If the purpose of the group is social-emotional satisfaction, a leader must be able to help others more than other members to meet this need. In some past decades, there has been strong connection between success of an organization and corporate leadership. In order to make this relationship a success, leaders face many issues and challenges and one of the basic skills of the leader is the ability to solve problems.

The issues/challenges are part of the daily dynamic of organizations and leaders need to know how to deal with them and what decisions to take to solve them. Problem solving is thus related to making timely and accurate decisions. That is a very practical aspect of leadership; the problems are part of the situations that the leader has to manage. In this paper I am going to discuss some of the main challenges/issues faced by leaders with respect to servant leadership. In addition other than servant leadership one more model of leadership that addresses the present issue will be discussed. In the end values needed by leaders to address identified challenges will be explained.

Challenges/Issues Faced By Leaders

Today, the issues/ challenges faced by leaders vary by organizations but there are some common issues that adversely affect the activity and performance of employees that ultimately affects operation of an organization. According to Rick Johnson there are six main challenges of leadership. The first challenges are related to the lack of clarity in company goals and objectives which lacks accountability. The second challenge is lack of strategies plan and functional strategy because of which communication becomes a main weakness. Third challenge is faced by leaders when key performance indications are not linked to specific objectives. Fourth issue or challenge is relates to revenue producing unites which frequently finds themselves in conflict with marketing and operational components which boils down the departmental activities (Johnson, 2009).

Fifth challenge is faced because of responsibilities, accountability, roles, and authority lines which creates confusion when are not clear. Last but not the least is challenge related to performance management.
