Violence against Women and Woman Issue in Russia

Introduction

Amnesty International and the Russian Association of Women's Shelters warn that 36,000 women are beaten every day by their husbands or partners in Russia and every 40 minutes a woman dies victim of home violence in this country. According to a joint statement from both organizations, this type of abuse is common within Russia, and in Russia there is a proper disgrace of woman as far as violence is concerned. Here woman is not independent to enjoy her life prospects.

No political or economic system when it succeeds prevent violence against women: in the US a female is raped after every 6 minutes in the Russian Federation, according to estimates, about 14,000 women die each year from violence within the home, in China, more than 15,000 women will be the sexual slaves this year. “There is no political, religious or cultural justification for violence against violence on woman” the statement said (Vlachova´, 2005).

This document was prepared with the help of Research Directorate of Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) using information drawn from sources that are available to the public. All information presented is referenced. This document does not be a complete treatment of the country studied, nor to be, conclusive as to the merit a specific request for refugee status. I have tried to cover the most of it.

According to sources, it is difficult to establish the true extent of violence married because of the lack of studies and aggregate data. The International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights (International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights-IHF) states that the only data are those provided by social service organizations that deal with domestic violence, and statistics collected by state agencies on the number of criminal cases, however, regarding these latest statistics, they do not determine the number of incidents of domestic violence because the legislation does not mention domestic violence as a separate category (Lee, 2011). Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty (RFE / RL) reported that the latest data on the many women died from domestic violence dating back to 1997 (26janv. 2001). Relying on existing information, the IHF believes that domestic violence cases, including 12 ...
