Nurse and Patients Violence

The significant increase in violence is a widely recognized phenomenon. According to the International Council of Nurses, this phenomenon affects the entire population, across boundaries of age, race, socioeconomic status, gender and place. Several studies on the topic of violence that affects working environments just conclude that some of these workplaces and occupations are at increased risk of violent incidents than others. In these investigations is recognized that violence in the workplace in the health sector is universal, which generates a high degree of stress, which may also encourage violent behavior, and in which it is evident that the nurses and staff ambulances are at greater risk of being victims of aggressive acts, which corresponds to violence especially of psychological (Antoniou, 2008).

The violence affecting nurses has double consequence, certainly not, because it affects one side of this professional life and, on the other, can affect the type of health services provided, i.e. the impact could be extended to the quality of health care provided to patients. Thus, this complex phenomenon of violence is also recognized in the hospital setting, approached from the perspective of workers in health care. However, studies focused on this issue from the point of view of patients or users of health services, the main focus of attention in this context, have scarcely been addressed (Dumont, 2010).

There are certain situations that arise during the care provided to hospitalized patients and perhaps associate with overcrowding and increasing complexity of health care, are not analyzed in the frequency and depth they deserve, and that may be considered manifestations of aggression or violence. One of them appears to be inherent in the hospital, is the lack of privacy, defined as "any hidden reality on an individual or group that deserves reserve." This is somewhat undermined in hospitalized patients, which was evident from the invasion not only territorial space, confined to a bed and a nightstand, but also when viewed in its unity by countless people which are generally unknown and answering questions regarding their personal life history, often without a prior explanation of why these procedures are necessary and these responses (Eva & Nouha, 2012).

In the hospital, the focus is the care of hospitalized patients and their needs, which means constantly identify internal and external factors that are influencing the health of those in our care, i.e. nursing care is addressed to the individual holistically, looking at different types of stimuli and responses in this medium, often unknown and painful for those who, for various reasons, have some alteration in the state of health, medical or surgical resolution and require admission to a hospital (Hardin, 2012).

Patients receiving health services can be violated by various manifestations that violate their rights and often are not only ignored by providers of health care, but also by the users themselves.
