War on Korea and Japan

Introduction:

World war II was a global military conflict which changed the world map. More than 70 million people lost their lives, armed forces fought defensively against their opponents, resulting to a massive bloodshed whose horror are still relived by the survivors. Till today many of these survivors, are haunted by the events which took place during this war (Tucker, 30).

Discussion:

However, as the end of the World War II brought apparent peace to the United States of America, little did they know that after this war, the Cold war will be waged upon them by the Communist country of Russia. The United States of America Assumed that the Soviet Union wanted to spread communism to the other nations and was going against the foreign policy introduced by America which was against the spread of communism. America's policy extended to Asia as well especially it wanted Japan to be economically isolated from the rest of the world and to do so, America waged a War on Japan. But America did not anticipate a surprise attack from Japan on the United States Pacific fleet at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii in1941. The attack severely damaged the American fleet and prevented, at least for the short term, serious American interference with Japanese military operations. The turning point in the Pacific war came with the American naval victory in the Battle of Midway in 1942 due to the fact that the Americans were well equipped with sophisticated weaponry and machine of that time (Gonnami, 100).

Unfortunately, the Japanese fleet sustained heavy losses and turned back to their home land. The Japanese, however, successfully defended their positions on the Chinese mainland until 1945. But, the most unthinkable happened, the U.S attacked Japan in 1945, showering the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki with atomic attack one after the other. The nuclear bomb called the A-bomb which erased generation upon generation in seconds was thrown on Nagasaki just 3 days after the attack on Hiroshima. An estimated 80000 people lost their lives by the initial explosion and many died after being exposed to radiation. Till today people are suffering the after math of the attacks by America. Japan later on the same year surrender to the U.S (Gonnami, 100).

Therefore, during the destruction of Japan, U.S did not leave behind Korea too. After 1945, when Japan was heavily affected by the nuclear bombings by U.S, Korea was attacked. The conflict started due to the fact that Korea had issues with those countries which were members of the U.N council (United Nations) and later on with China (which later on gained membership to the U.N). North and South Korea waged war on U.S by sending in their troops in 1950. The main reason for this war was the fact that, the division of Korea into North and South was not supported even though Soviet Union joined hands with Korea and supplied arms and ammunition to them.
