Introduction

Master Data management is said to be a discipline concerning data management that is responsible for actively managing rather than maintaining data within a transactional system across an enterprise. Considering that there is pervasiveness of applications in terms of business intelligence (BI) it has managed to acquire much attention currently. MDM is said to unleash the real value of business intelligence by facilitating view that is consistent by nature when it comes to measurement of performance and it also analyzes it via the key master entities within an organization (Kroenke, 2001). The integration of the master data can be thought of as an issue that is IT oriented and therefore the stakeholders of the business can be reluctant when it comes to engaging in such initiatives. However it is a technically complex cross-functional as well as a discipline that is process oriented that is said to impact the data in relation to the vendors, customers, products, locations and much more. It is also said to require the support as well as the acceptance at an organizational level. This specific message is said to have resonation at its best when MDM is said to be positioned in a context that is business oriented. If there are errors in the master data when it comes to multiple application or sources it is said to become expensive for the organization in terms of not only missing business opportunities but having dissatisfied customers as well. It is MDM that is said to facilitate any business in reducing such expenses and at the same time boosting the growth of the business. This paper will further highlight, discuss as well give an overview of the following:

Why MDM?

The value enterprise applications is said to be as good as the degree to which the data can be leveraged. It is the inconsistent data that is fragmented by nature that tends to impact the up-sell/cross-sell ability as well as the delay time to market which tends to create inefficiencies in terms of the supply chain as well as tens to weaken the penetration in the market. The enterprises or the organization face difficulty when the data of the customer is duplicated or inaccurate or incomplete eventually leading to improper revenue recognition along with new sets of risks entering. It also constitutes impacts such as ineffectiveness of the marketing campaigns as well as decreasing customer loyalty.
