CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

The intention of the research is to focus on business options and to identify the promotional strategies that could be used to promote Cameroon as a preferred holiday destination in Africa. It is important to study and understand a number of different and basic concepts to have a better grasp on the topic. It is because of this, the chapter includes some basic concepts in relation to tourism in general, and tourism related to Africa therefore related to Cameroon, so that the reader is better informed.

Location of Cameroon in Africa as a tourist destination

Tao, (2009), states that when discussing Cameroon, it is worth keeping in mind that Cameroon, also known as the Republic of Cameroon, is a country in central Africa, and situated in the Gulf of Guinea. It borders Nigeria , Chad , Central African Republic , Congo , Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. Cameroon is a member of a number of bodies including the UN , African Union and other international organizations.
