Anthes. E. (2013). Frankenstein's Cat: Cuddling Up to Biotech's Brave New Beasts. Oneworld Publications.

Process: This book was located from Google books using the Google search options. First, I used the keywords of “genetic manipulation”, which provided me over 30,000 results. I then clicked on subject terms to narrow by the term “customization of pets through genetic manipulation”. With this keywords selection I got 1130 results. I narrowed down the result with the use of advance searching option to obtain results till past five years publication. This was the first book on the list. After scanning I included it in my list since it is relevant to my study.

Evaluation: This book was published by OneWorld publications and written by Anthes. In this book, the author discusses the use of biotechnology to clone and manipulate pets and for shaping the future of cats. In this book, she discussed that animals are genetically manipulated for the protection of endangered species and injured animals. This book is a good example to show the studies and view of people about genetic engineering. The author has encounters with ethicists, scientists, entrepreneurs and conservationists and she realized that some of our interventions are trivial, however others have contributed to improve the lives of a large number of species. The author had made highlighted peril and promises of the superpowers of science which has taken us to the adventure of new world where the grand science fictions have become reality.

Evaluation: This book is a scientific study of two people about the contributions and ethics of genetic engineering in animals. They have concluded that genetic engineering has a potential to bring flawless world. They have analyzed that cloning is used to replicate the animal with its genetic material. Moreover, selective breeds have been used to breed two species or two kinds of animals in order to have desired traits. The contributions of genetic engineering is ethical because it has brought in several benefits which can augment and make the world better to the maximum degree with the prevention of diseases, protection of human lives and production of desirable traits in animals.
