CHAPTER 01: INTRODUCTION

Background of the Research

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions have been amongst the most recurrent, yet the most disastrous contribution that has been made to the ecosystem as a result of the activities and industrialized strategies adopted by human beings in the world of technology.

With the excess of this menace, companies and organizations are engrossed in undertaken healing measures and treatments which would, if not completely halt, lessen and reduce the degree and magnitude of damage that has paved way through the emissions of carbon dioxide within the atmosphere.

Problem Statement

The problem statement undertaken for the compilation of this research study is 'Why companies should reduce CO2 emission in their freight transport?'

Research Aim

The aim of this research study that has paved underway is to analyze precisely what are the reasons and factors because of which companies involved in the freight and forwarding should adopt measures and steps to reduce the diffusion of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions within the atmosphere.

In addition to this, the aim also encompasses solutions and remedies, which would aid in the reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, which would assist them in the area of transportation.

Research Objectives

To further elaborate and fulfilling the research aim, the following research objectives have been derived, which would assist the researcher in developing a concrete research. These objectives are:

To understand the impact of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions in the atmosphere;

To identify the influence of CO2 emissions on freight transportation; and

To make judgments and draw conclusions regarding the steps and strategies that could aid and help reduce CO2 emissions and improve transportation facilities and services.

Research Questions

With the objectives identified and defined, our research questions come into existence. The research questions that are associated with this research are as follows:

What is the impact of CO2 emissions in the human ecosystem?

What are the direct and indirect impacts of CO2 emissions prevalent in freight transportation?

How can companies and organization adopt different strategies in order for reducing CO2 emissions in the area of freight transportation?

SECTION 01: UNDERSTANDING THE CARBON DIOXIDE (CO2) EMISSIONS IN THE ATMOSPHERE

CO2 Emissions: A global hazard

CO2 emissions, more formally entitled as greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, are a serious bone of contention, which continues to take place and dismantle the workability of the human environment (Beamon, 2008, pp.4).

To understand and comprehend the kind of destructive forces that are working, one needs to thoroughly analyze with an eagle eye to understand and comprehend the kind of steps and attempts human beings make in the name of progression, advancement, technological growth and expansion.
