Introduction

This book is a mere reflection of the times, lives and great ideas that were given by the great philosophers. The book is compiled up by the one, Robert L. Heilbroner. This book was written back in the 1953, and up till now it has been so popular that it has managed to sell more than three million copies in all of its seven editions so far. This book just like that of Paul Samuelson has been so successful in being published and sold, for that matter. The author of this book has started the second chapter through describing and defining the various precarious and the paradoxical mentality and nature of the behavior of the humans. The writer in this book holds a very strong opinion that the life of any human is characterized largely by the struggles that he goes through.

Even in those societies that were old and labeled as being primitive, such as that of the Eskimos, do not create or raise any issues, for that matter. The writer is of the opinion that the individuals are made to behave, and their behavior largely depends on the various strong level of pressures that strongly act in the direction of the interests of the individual's very survival.
