This research proved that Energy is released in oxidation reduction reactions. The amount of energy that is released is proportional to the difference in electron affinities between the electron donor and the electron acceptor.

The basis for energy metabolism in all living things is the oxidation-reduction reaction in which electrons move from an electron donor to an electron acceptor.
