Abstract

In this study, we try to explore the concept of “knee replacement” in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on “knee replacement” and its relation with “pros and cons of the surgery.” The research also analyzes many aspects of “knee replacement” and tries to gauge its effect on “pros and cons of the surgery.”

Total knee replacement

Introduction

Whenever there is stiffness, pain, bulge, and limitation in the movement of the knee that stops a person from performing his daily routine activities, then that person might require a total knee replacement. The process of making a total replacement in the knee started some 30 years ago. Today, in excess of 400,000 people on an annual basis in America, undergo surgery for total replacement of the knee to get relief from pain, stiffness, and repair knee mobility. The most common reason for draining pain in the knee is arthritis. According to an estimate, there are more than forty million people in the U.S., who are suffering from some form of arthritis, i.e. one out of every three families (Langdown & Marshall, pp. 669).

Discussion

When the orthopedic surgeon operates the replacement of a knee, he or she has four main objectives.

The first objective is to ease out the pain in the knee of the patient.

The second objective is the restitution of joint mobility in the patient.

The third objective is the correction of malformations, refurbishment of length of the leg, correction in the limps.

Successful long-term

The knee replacement has evolved, as it has become one of the most authentic and certain procedures that are available today. The total knee replacement has metamorphosed lives of a number of patients through rendering them the chance to become active once again while feeling less pain (Arx, Langdown, Brooks & Woods, pp. 883).

Benefits of total knee replacement

The process of total knee replacement has proved to be very productive throughout the years at palliating people from severe pain and ameliorating mobility of the knee joint in the patient. In a research, ninety percent of the participants ranked their contrived knee joint as being in excellent condition even after five years after their knee surgery (Langdown, Price, Pandit, Svard, Murray, Dodd & Gibbons, pp. 688). There are a number of advantages of having a total knee replacement; some of them are discussed below.

Reduced Pain

Pain in the knee joint is one of the chief reasons why patients undergo knee replacement surgery, according to Wright's Patient Education Series. Because knee replacement involves removing the diseased or arthritic knee joint, once a patient recovers from surgery, he often experiences a significant reduction in pain.

Enhanced Range of Motion

Whether because of inflammation or stiffness, patients, who are going to have knee replacement frequently, feel a diminished level of movement in their knee joint. While, the knee implant often does not have the array of movement ...
