Discussion

Richard Connell's “The Most Dangerous Game”, is an adventurous and a dreadful short story. The story is very slow at starting, but then the adventure, curiosity and horror train begins to pick up speed by the middle of the story. The story is very clear and striking. According to New York Time book review “The Most Dangerous Game," makes a highly satisfactory melodrama. It has the much-desired virtue of originality, which, in no small measure, compensates for some of its gruesome ideas and its outlandish plot” (Fischer, 45).

The author, Richard Connell is certainly best known for his famous short story "The Most Dangerous Game," but he also got noted for having worked on many movie scripts from the '20s to the '40s, as well as other short stories and novels, such as The Mad Lover, Murder at Sea, and What, Ho!. Connell's screenplay The Luxury Liner was likely the inspiration for the television show The Love Boat, and on an intriguing note, the origin of paintball may well have stemmed from a conversation surrounding the premise of "The Most Dangerous Game (Shoqan, 225).”TMDG" became the basis for numerous films, and to this day, most any work related to the idea of hunting humans owes its origins to the famous short story by Richard Connell.

In Richard Connell's “The Most Dangerous Game,” Rainsford changes in the long-term of his experiences as the hunted remains unclear, as Connell leaves any transformations in Rainsford undefined. Rainsford probably emphasizes more with the creatures that he hunted, but no one knows for sure if he will continue hunting. Rainsford may abandon hunting completely or approach his hunting with newfound respect for his prey. However, Rainsford was able to sleep so soundly after killing Zarroff. Rainsford may have never changed or become even more ruthless in the end. His experiences during World War I taught him about the sanctity of human life, so he feels disgusted by Zarroff hunting.
