In addition, the company owns and operates in the UK with the name Paperchase Products Limited as designers and stationery, greeting cards and gift retailer. The company also established a proprietary e-commerce site, www.Borders.com. The trademark includes: Borders, Borders bookstores and bookstores Music.

Causes of Bankruptcy

One of the areas in which the company suffered a crushing defeat was online business. Borders could not compete with companies such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble retail and shark - Wall-Mart (online.wsj.com). The company is far from its nearest rival Barnes & Noble to create a viable model for the sale of digital content (Spector, 2000). In 2001, Borders redirected the users to the site Amazon; it took seven years before in 2008 the company launched its own service to sell books online. But the initiative was lost (Jasper, 2006).

The main shareholders of the company today are Pershing Square Capital Management, represented by William A. Ackman, and Executive Director Bennett S.LeBow - it is clear that their assets may be largely affected by the bankruptcy proceedings (Jasper, 2006).

Borders problems lie in a series of strategic errors, rotation of top management and not understanding the basics of the century digital technology - the company itself is largely to blame for that lost the strategic initiative. Many people saw that things were going badly at Borders, but hoped that companies will get out of it (www.associatedcontent.com). Unfortunately, the fast-changing market, which just belongs to trade in books, there is no room for error (www.homemediamagazine.com).
