American and International Business ethics

Introduction

The term Business Ethics refers to honesty, sincerity, trustworthy, and openness, in the business. It also focuses on the law and legal requirement of the business rules and ethics. The Business Ethics aims to comply with culture, tradition, and society acceptance. Business ethics has always been the integral part of the businesses and it has served the society and all stakeholders. Aristotle equated profit to usury. Business is simple a human activity that is essential for making profits (Werhane, 2005). Business ethics indulges since the initial transactions. it has significance in the organizational hierarchy. Ethics involves in every human activity in the business. The main purpose of ethics is to get balance between the activity and consequence. Thus both consequentialist and deontological ethics are relevant and important to business. It is important for the businesses to follow the Ethics more than anything. However, the business ethics internationally differ somewhat from American culture.

The phenomenal growth of international business has placed greater emphasis on ethical global business practice. Business managers who wish to extend operations globally face the challenges of cultural differences, norms, and values. Cross-cultural partners have a greater potential for conflict without a basic understanding of each other's cultural values and practice. Jones, (1995) clearly asserted that, “Culture is more often a source of conflict than of synergy. Cultural differences are a nuisance at best and often a disaster”. Jaffe and Kanungo, (1996) believe that many differences between moral codes and ethics between cultures have impeded business practice and weakened confidence between international business partners.

The issue of business ethics in the United States is characterized by its exceptional vitality. This vitality has three dimensions: media success, transformation management practices, and theoretical creativity. The three are closely linked, and each feeds the growth of the other two. Beyond its sociological importance, this problem has also created conditions for a renewal depth of reflection on relations between the individual, enterprise and market economy. However, despite increasing borrowing it creates around the world, the concept of ethics cases born in the United States is perhaps not universal, because it is deeply rooted in American culture. This is the perspective in which the subject will be addressed in this synthesis.
