Barnaby Gaitlin is the very dark sheep of his family, a 30-year-old child of a well-off localized family that mostly dedicates its time to the family charitable foundation. He not ever graduated from school and he works as a laborer for Rent-a-Back, a business that drives over laborers to do strange occupations, move furnishings, and do house chores, usually for aged people. He's separated, sees his female child only one day a month, and has a lawless individual record.

Tyler's unconventional first-person narrator. Barnaby's life is certain thing of a untidy, and from his narrative voice one gets the effect that he's not awfully brilliant (and has problem with impulse control).
