Introduction

Digging to America is a story set in Baltimore, Maryland about two very distinct families' knowledge with adoption and their connections with each other. Sami and Ziba Yazdan, an Iranian-American family, and Brad and Bitsy Dickinson-Donaldson, an all-American suburban family, rendezvous at the aerodrome on the day their infant daughters reach from Korea to start life in America. The two families become associates and start a custom of celebrating the appearance of their taken up daughters each year.

The dissimilarities between the two families are clear-cut from the starting, particularly in the way each twosome concludes to lift their daughters. Brad and Bitsy select not to Americanize their female child, Jin-Ho; they hold her Korean title and educate her about Korean heritage as she develops up. Sami and Ziba, on the other hand, select to lift their female child Susan like other American children.

Through the efforts of Bitsy, the two families start a custom of celebrating their daughters' appearance in America with an Arrival Party each year. The commemoration becomes a blend of American, Korean, and Iranian heritage with the distinct nourishment and persons present. The article extends to advancement through the early childhood of Jin-Ho and Susan, brandishing the dissimilarities in how they are increased and the influence it has on them as they augment older. At times, the connection between the two families is struggled because of their diverging attitudes of some matters, but they stay good associates all through the whole story.

In the end, Maryam recognizes that Dave is too much of a risk to the orderly boundaries of her life, and she finishes their relationship.

 

Character List

Jin-Ho Dickinson-Donaldson - the female child of Brad and Bitsy, taken up from Korea at six months of age, Jin Ho is a convoluted feature who sustains a dynamic character all through the book.

Susan Yazdan - the female child of Sami and Ziba, taken up from Korea at six months of age. Susan may be glimpsed as “bossy” to Jin Ho, but she is apparently the apple crop of her parents' eye.

Bitsy Donaldson - the mother of Jin-Ho and Xiu-Mei, wife of Brad, and female child of Connie and Dave. She is a very very resolute and opinionated woman, proactive about life and her connections with people.

Ziba Yazdan - the mother of Susan and wife of Sami. Ziba immigrated to the United States from Iran in high school and works as a central designer. Ziba is very self-aware, habitually worried about other ones and about her self-image.

Brad Donaldson - the dad of Jin-Ho and Xiu-Mei, married man of Bitsy, and child of Pat and Lou. Brad adores married man who appears to accept as factual Bitsy can manage no wrong.

Sami Yazdan - the dad of Susan, married man of Ziba, and child of Maryam. Sami was born in the United States. He is a calm but opinionated man who actually has a heart for his ...
