Animal Farm and the Russian Revolution

Revolution means a change of the social order. It transfers the power from the hands of a class that has exhausted itself into those of another class, which is in the ascendant. In Animal Farm, Mr. Jones, a farmer, representing the capitalist monarch society in pre-rebellion Russia, has a functioning and standard farm in the countryside of England and it includes the typical animals and beasts of burden on such a farm, including pigs, horses, poultry, dogs, goats and other animals of the sort. In many ways the farm also mimics the countryside of Russia during its revolution with its poor and worsening conditions and irresponsible leaders. He works and uses the animals to sell the fruits of their labor so that he may survive and thrive in the capitalist society. However, Old Major, a prize-winning boar has been around long enough to realize his and the other animals exploitation. He envisions and dreams of a socialist utopia for the animals. He assembles the animals to tell him of his dream and the pending rebellion against the harsh and devil human.

''Then Snowball (for it was Snowball who was best at writing) took a brush painted out Manor Farm and in its place painted Animal Farm. (Orwell, 1996) It can be said that Snowball was the one of the most irreplaceable person who created Animal Farm. Before the revolution was made, Snowball had been preparing and teaching the other animals about it. ''These three [Snowball, Napoleon and Squealer] had elaborated old Major's teachings into a complete system of thought, to which they gave the name Animalism.

Like Snowball, Leon Trotsky was a very intellectual person; he was also a great writer. According to encarta.msn.com ''Trotsky excelled in all subjects and was always at the top of his class.'' He wrote lots of books, such as Results and Prospect in which he discussed about his theory of permanent revolution; My Life, an autobiography; and he also worked as theoretician and journalist. Trotsky was one of the most important brains in the Russian Revolution. ''If Lenin was the uncontested leader of the Bolsheviks, it was Leon Trotsky who became their organizational genius.''''He was an indefatigable worker, a rousing public speaker, and a decisive administrator. It wasn't because the Russian Revolution started that Leon Trotsky became a revolutionary; since ...
