Argument of Bringing Back Flogging

Introduction

The definition of flogging is to beat up someone with a whip or a rod. Flogging is commonly associated with nations who are authoritarian such as Singapore or Malaysia and other fundamentalist groups such as Taliban practicing flogging in Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq and Pakistan. Countries like Saudi Arabia have punishments like cutting the hands of thieves accused of stealing and beheading people who murder or kill someone else, all these flogging similar methods are executed in public. Although it is a fact that in Saudi Arabia people fear committing offences like stealing and killing as the witness such shocking consequences of other who get caught, that is why the rate of crime in Saudi Arabia is comparatively less as compared to other countries of the world (Butcher, pp. 2).

I find Jacoby's argument quite convincing because it is highly effective, saves cost and reduces crime. Although it has disadvantages such as it is painful, humiliating and not suitable to be practiced at a public place, but my perspective is that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Even what I had experienced in my personal life when I used to study in school is that when students were punished physically such as sit-ups and spanking on the palm and shoulders with a stick made them behave more and abide by the laws and code of conduct of the school. Also, children who used to be bullies at school stopped teasing, hurting and calling names at other children after they were punished by their teachers in front of their classmates.

Discussion

Secondly, it can be used even for someone who does not have its own property or do not pay fines - not in this case to go through the whole complicated structure at the end of which stands the bailiff. Leaves the problem situation in which the spouse of the offender pays for his misconduct, or parents pay for the child because the person who committed the offense does not have assets. There are people who laugh at the law, because they have nothing to lose - would be on them flogging whip - literally and figuratively. Thirdly, the flogging would be a remedy for cases of remission are common due to their low social harm. People commit crimes or offenses, knowing that because of the low social harm they miss all the consequences. Fourth, the prospect of the death penalty would act in two ways. Firstly fear of pain, and secondly the fear of public humiliation. That's a pretty strong impact, and certainly that would cause more people to be two times wondered before he did something stupid (Collinson, pp. 34).

Strengths

The first and the most important strength of flogging are that it is highly cheap whereas penalizing people and sentencing them to jails is costly as ...
