The Impact of Overweight and Obesity on Health-Related Quality of

Life

Introduction

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate 2 Peer-reviewed evaluating the Impact of Obesity and Overweight on Health-Related Quality of Life. The first article chosen for analysis is the impact of overweight and obesity on health-related quality of life in childhood written by Ulrike Ravens, Christiane Petersen, Michael Erhart, and Nora Wille while the second article chososen for analysis is The impact of obesity on health-related quality-of-life in the general adult written by Erica I. Lubetkin and Haomiao Jia. There are five key sections in this paper which are further divided into sub section. The first second is rationale/ background section in which I have explained the reason behind in-depth investigation of this topic. Section two involves literature strategy and search in which I have located relevant literature. In third section of this paper I have critically appraise two above mentioned articles separately then in fourth section I have given discussion and recommendations and in the end I have concluded these studies. The focus has been on the man issue raised in articles and the type of study design, and literature review selected to deduct the conclusion. The appraisal will be presented step by step detailing out the study design, literature review, data collection and conclusion.

Background/ Rationale

Childhood obesity is a public health problem current trend, high prevalence and epidemic character having very negative consequences for development, welfare and quality of life. This, among others, has led to growing interest in the psychosocial aspects of childhood obesity. The reason behind choosing this health related problem is that In emerging economies, childhood obesity and the diseases associated with it and affecting health related quality of life in the very infancy or in adulthood, have increased at an alarming rate especially in the last 20 years (Dietz, 2003, 676). Childhood obesity is a major public health concern worldwide so, we have to fight against this problem and this can be done when we would know the factors affecting children's and adult's quality of life. I choose obesity and its relationship with health related quality of life because in adults and children because today we have seen that those children who are obsessed in their childhood also obsessed in their adulthood. In addition it is seen that childhood obesity is affecting people in adulthood. There are very few studies available in which health related quality life is related to obesity.

Childhood obesity is not a newly discovered healthy issue, yet its effects have been more devastating for children in the recent years than before (Pool, 2001, 461).
