Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin

Introduction

There are scores of books that are written on the topic of self-improvement but a real inspiring book would be the one that illustrates practical instances. This paper talks about a book that is an autobiography and serves as an inspiring source of bringing improvement in one's self. It is the autobiography of Benjamin Franklin. The autobiography of Franklin is a medium with which one can bring improvement in one's personality in more than one ways. This paper covers various facets of the book. Like any other autobiography writings, Benjamin's book represented “dramatizations and selective orderings of the diverse material” of its author's experience it is, as one of his biographers have observed, “an elaborate fabrication, truthful in its details yet subtly misleading in its overall plan” (Franklin, p.262).

The Beginning

The Autobiography starts with an acknowledgment to Ben Franklin's son, William Franklin who at that time honoured as imperial governor of New Jersey. Franklin wrote in the summer of the year 1771 on vacations in a little city about 50 miles in south London. Franklin said that the reason his son might desire information of his life, he talked one week vacation in the English country side to recover his past. Franklin said that he had entertainment in his life and would like to replicate it, even though he would like to accurate some small error if the chance arose. But since it is not possible to repeat the life, he can in its place recollect it. He thanked God for permitting him to lead a good life.

Franklin and Family

Benjamin recounted few of his old family. He was the youngest son of a youngest son for five generation, though Franklin had two young sisters. He told his grandfather and uncle, and he included a few piece of poetic from beloved uncle and respected Benjamin, he was named just after his uncle Benjamin. The Franklin and his whole ancestry was active clan; they were concerned very early on in the Improvement in Europe, for example. Ben then discussed his parent. Franklin's father, Josiah Franklin, moved from Britain to US in 1682 with his wife and three children. There were four more children with the same wife, and ten more children with another wife Abiah, whom Josiah matrimonial after the death of his first wife. Franklin himself, the 15th of 17 children, was born in Boston on January 17, 1706.
