Nevertheless, the actual concept of Social Media that we described it in current era was incorporated approximately a decade earlier, when “Open Diary” the first social networking site was formulated by Bruce and Susan Abelson that brought a group of people under a single community that was a year later termed as “Weblog” (ISACA, 2010).

The mounting accessibility of high-speed Internet is considered as a major factor in tremendous increase in the reputation of social media concept. Further, introduction of new social networking sites like MySpace (2003) and Facebook (2004), that in particular has become a most popular social networking site. further, as describes by (Kaplan & Haenlein, 2009) that these unexpected development has raised the concept of “Social Media” to its peak level, and explained that this industry is frequently growing with the latest addition in form of “Virtual worlds” which is proposed to be formulated in three dimensional phase and is most commonly remembered as second life of Linden Lab's (Ghose & Yang, 2009).

Moreover, as the world is surrounded by this general concept of the social media, but as technology is enhancing several other forms of Social Media are being launched and that has made it imperative for the authorities to clear distinguish the usage and context of social websites. However, it is also a well known fact that popular social media sites like facebook, youtube and others are integral part of this vast industry and so far no such tool is available that can effectively categorize all the forms of social media services.

Background of the research

Moving forward, with the passage of time, several new and improved websites are emerging into the cyberspace almost thrice a week, and hence it has become imperative that any categorization policy formation that can instrumentally take hold of current scenario might be drafted shortly. On the other hand, to formulate such a policy is again necessary to go through reliable information related to social media that is accessible from reliable sources.
