In this report I have mentioned my recommendations for the check and balance on child labor in reply for those allegations that have risen against our firm. Intentions are very clear, somehow or other stops the incoming launch of our new product. The recommendation s will help in the success full launch of our product.
Discussion
Child labor refers to the employment of children in any work that takeaway children of their childhood, interferes with their talent to attend school regularly, and that is physically, mentally, morally or socially harmful and dangerous. This practice is considered abusive by many international organisations. Across the world legislation prohibit child labor. But many firms or organizations use this issue to get personal advantages by accusing other organizations for the use of child labor. As happened in our case, but by acting and following certain rules and procedures we can come out from this problem successfully. My first recommendation is that there should an inspection of Fair Labor Association.
The main motive of the association is to analyze the norms of the society related to child labor. If the association would be given free hand it will not only identify the issues related to child labor but it also solve the issues as according to the designed polices prescribed within the labor laws. On the other hand, the inspection team of the association should be allowed to search and visit the places randomly so that there would be no chance of scope.
If the company wants to eliminate child labor from its supply chain then increased focus should be laid towards implementing the national laws on child labor. When the local standards are lower than the international standards then the company should strive towards adopting the stricter of the standards.
The company should also indulge in human right due diligence and should ensure that the company fully complies with the human rights standards. The company should indulge actively in conducting social audits to gage the level of child labor being practiced in its factories. The focus should be laid towards improving the factory conditions and to improve the internal audits.
The company should take full guidance from the ILO to ensure that things proceed in a timely fashion and everything is in order.
Procedures and Policy
The company should stringently focus towards implementing human resource policies and it should be mandatory for all suppliers to take strict measures if child labor is persisted in any form. The human rights policy will help the company to comply with international child labor standards adhering to Convention No 182. This convention specifically talks about the minimum acceptable age for selecting employees to work. The audit should be mandatory for the company and it will be performed by an external company, this would ensure greater compliance and proper management.
