In May 2012, Gordon café and the Environmental Innovation Alliance (EIA) forged a partnership agreement in which both committed to reduce the impact of their business procedures on the environment and to become more environment-friendly. Before entering into this agreement, Gordon café was not using reusable cups to serve hot beverages in its outlets to provide coffee/tea and food to its customers. Gordon café is currently using nested cups to serve single hot beverages like coffee or tea. Company's CEO is environmentalist and dreams about pollution free environment that's why he decided to start 'reusable cup initiative' in his own coffee house in order to inspire other businesses in the same industry to follow his example and become environment friendly too.
Quality Assurance and Enhancement through 'Reusable Cup Initiative'
Gordon café and ELA have set standards for these reusable cups which represent the design guidelines and minimum environmental thresholds for all the reusable cup producers who will be contracted by the company to supply these new reusable and disposable cups. One of the standards is to use the special kind of material which not only increase the life of the cups, but also keep the coffee/tea hot for a period of time which is longer than that of nestedcups currently used by the café. This way beverage will remain hot and customers, especially in winters, will enjoy their hot coffee for a longer period of time. This initiative will not only contribute towards the friendly environment, but also enhances the quality of the products and services Gordon café is offering to its customers. Quality will be assured by asking the producers to determine the overall lifetime of the cups and disposing them 2 months before their expiry date (Anne,2000).
