Cancer

Introduction

There are many diseases that are found commonly in every part of the world. Some of these diseases are curable and some are not curable and have been killing several people for years. One of the most serious diseases is cancer. Cancer is the uncontrolled and abnormal growth of cells. If this disease id left untreated it can ultimately be a probable cause of death. The word cancer has derived from a Greek word which is used for crab, karkinos. In the times of Greeks, physicians who did research and gained knowledge regarding cancerous tumors, did not have immense knowledge about the causes or true nature of the disease but they found a similarity between cancer and some invasive tumors common in crabs.

It is important to understand that cancer is not one disease and that there are several forms of cancer. It is quite certain to say that few cancers are curable and most of the cancers don't have a cure (www.cancer.org). Despite the fact that each type of cancer has its own unique characteristics but they all share one similar characteristic which is uncontrolled and abnormal cell growth. This uncontrolled and abnormal growth of cells tends to form tumors that disrupt body functions and invade normal tissues. These tumors become cancerous and dangerous when they spread in the body. Tumors that have the tendency to spread to other parts of the body are called malignant, while the ones that lack potential to spread in the body are called benign.

Thesis Statement

Cancer does not have a real cure, however scientist all around the world have found information on hereditary issues, medicines, and possible preventative measures for cancer.

Discussion

Cancer is the second major cause of death in America and has developed as a concern for many individuals, since this disease can develop from genetic defects. Many also worry because this disease can be cured and treated but most of the time people get it back.
