Abstract

The paper is designed to highlight the history and background of the great English scientist Charles Darwin. He is the person, who presented the world's famous theory of evolution in the account of science. It also defines the journey of Darwin's, from a normal medical student to scientific researcher.

Charles Darwin

Introduction and Background

Charles Robert Darwin is the great name in the history of science. He was the British scientist, and English naturalist, who laid the foundation of theory of evolution and changed the mode we imagine about the globe of nature. Charles Darwin was born on 12 February- 1809 into a well-to-do and joint family, and died on 19 April -1882. His maternal grandfather was the manufacturer in China and while his paternal grandfather was Erasmus Darwin, was one of the well known intellectual personalities of 18th century. He initially wished to follow the medicinal career and went to study at 'Edinburgh University”, but afterward, he shifted to religious studies at Cambridge. In the year of 1831, he enrolled a 5 year scientific voyage on the survey ship HMS Beagle.

Discussion Analysis

Creation of Theory

It was the wisdom of Darwin that he established the reason and origin of human life, he presented his philosophy that all species have moved down from general ancestors (Coyne, 2009) and suggested the scientific theory that branches the model of evolutions, which results from a procedure, known natural selection. Darwin did great struggle for finding the existence of artificial selection involved in selective breeding (Larson, 2004). It was believed by most of the Europeans that the world is created by GOD in seven days as it is depicted in the holy scripture of Bible (Browne, 1995). On a day, Darwin read Lyell's 'Principles of Geology' about the voyage, which proposed that the fossils initiate in rocks, where actual facts of animals were found that had lived for millions of years. The argument presented by Lyell was toughened in Darwin's own intelligence by the wealthy range of animal life and the features of geological were seen during his voyage. It was basically the Galapagos Islands, who put breakthrough in his ideas about human origin. He noticed that every island supports its own nature of finch, which is strongly related but changed in vital customs (www.bbc.co.uk).

In the year of 1836, Darwin attempted to figure out the puzzles of these interpretations and the dilemma of species evolvement. Darwin was influenced by the concepts of Malthus; he designed a theory of evolution happening by the procedure of natural selection. Plants and animals best fitted to their environment, which are more likely to reproduce and survive, advancing on the features that help them to survive for their offspring. It has been observed that species change gradually by the time(www.bbc.co.uk). Darwin was working on theory for around twenty years of his life. Alfred Russel Wallace had developed similar ideas, after learning that another naturalist completed a joint proclamation of their discovery in the year of 1858.
