Abstract

Theories of conflict resolution have emerged as the world faces diversity in conflicts and problems. The increase complexity of conflicts poses challenges to law enforcement agencies to provide justice. In the contemporary world, conflicts are not restricted by geographical border but in fact, over the time it is being dislocated, de-centralized, and transnational. This automatically raised need for theories of conflict management Practitioners of conflict resolution work at different levels ranging from the interpersonal to the international, operate in different domains such as court systems, public policy, labor, etc and derive their ideas from variety of sources, such as law, psychotherapy, management theories, etc. Practitioners should start process of conflict resolution by taking into account views of opposing sides, then working out the solutions which is mutually agreeable to both sides. Effective conflict resolution foster understanding, mutual respect and helps to avoid conflict in future.

Introduction

In the modern era, conflicts have reached the higher level. Now days, conflicts are highly ambitious. They are not restricted to one location; they are dislocated. They are not restricted to one crucial point; they are decentralized. They are not restricted to some national boundaries; they are transnational. As a matter of fact, these conflicts defy all boundaries between states and non state actors. Of these highly ambitious conflicts, form is terrorism which is prevailing in 21st Century, and it is quite different which the history has witnessed in its pages (Bercovitch & Jackson, 2009). This was just a broader perceptive about conflict. If we talk in a narrow context, the importance of conflict resolution in our daily lives and workplaces has also increased mammoth times. Natures of conflict on our workplaces have also evolved to be different from that we have observed in the past. In the wake of contemporary conflicts, it is pivotal to develop theories of conflict resolutions to coup up with the new world scenario and maintain peace building efforts in the world (Tidwell, 1998).

Theory of Conflict Resolution

The aim of any conflict resolution theory is to create a win-win situation for both parties. However, it is not as easy as said. The increased complexity of conflicts has become challenging for the law and justice authorities; tribunal courts and litigation often face difficulties to create a win-win situation. In the past two decades, we have witnessed the development and proliferation of a variety of new approaches to conflict resolution. Practitioners of conflict resolution work at different levels ranging from the interpersonal to the international operate in different domains such as court systems, public policy, labor, etc and derive their ideas from a variety of sources, such as law, psychotherapy, management theories, and group dynamics (Dennis Et al, 1993). In developing a theory of conflict resolution it is important to note that there is no one universal standard of conflict resolution method; all methods are applicable in differing circumstances.
