Creativity

I have learnt that leaders are drivers of creativity in Entrepreneurship. Imagination and dreaming are the real drivers of Entrepreneure growth. Creativity breeds in an independent mind. Happy minds are seldom creative and some times it is only in crisis that individuals tend to become more creative. Creative individuals often derive insights from obstacles and hurdles they face in their day-to-day life.

The following are the highlights of my “c-Journal” and the things that I learnt in the course.

What is Creativity

I define creativity as the act of turning new and imaginative ideas into reality. Creativity involves two processes: thinking, then producing. Innovation is the production or implementation of an idea. If you have ideas, but don't act on them, you are imaginative but not creative. Creativity is the process of bringing something new into being...creativity requires passion and commitment. Out of the creative act is born symbols and myths. It brings to our awareness what was previously hidden and points to new life. The experience is one of heightened consciousness-ecstasy.

Creative Problem Solving

Creative problem solving is the mental process of creating a solution to a problem. It is a special form of problem solving in which the solution is independently created rather than learned with assistance. Creative problem solving always involves creativity(Vandervert 2003b pp. 17-30). But I have seen that creativity often does not involve creative problem solving, especially in fields such as music, poetry, and art. Creativity requires newness or novelty as a characteristic of what is created, but creativity does not necessarily imply that what is created has value or is appreciated by other people. I learnt that a frequent approach to teaching creative problem solving is to teach critical thinking in addition to creative thinking, but the effectiveness of this approach is not proven. As an alternative to separating critical and creative thinking, some creative-problem-solving techniques focus on either reducing an idea's disadvantages or extracting a flawed idea's significant advantages and incorporating those advantages into a different idea.

That is to say such people can see the raw, the fresh, the concrete as well as the generic, the abstract, the categorized, and the classified. He terms these people self-actualized and characterizes them as having boldness, freedom, courage, and spontaneity. Creativity becomes an attitude shown throughout the daily life of the individual(Schmahmann 2004 367-378).

To me, creativity as a function of a cognitive process is illustrated by Osborn, Wallas, Gordon, Koestler, and Guilford. The term cognitive process means a volitional mental operation that can be learned in much the same way as solving a mathematical equation or speaking another language(Vandervert 2003a 159-175).

I think that the theory of knowledge and creativity is an important department of philosophy. It arose historically with philosophy, as its core, around which everything else was built. This department of philosophy considers a wide range of problems: the relationship between knowledge and reality, its sources and driving forces, its forms and levels, the principles and laws of cognitive activity, and the trends of its ...
