Introduction

Illegal drugs like marijuana, cocaine and heroin has always been nightmarish for the parents. However, it is now the perfectly legal drugs but it is perfectly legal and readily available drug prescription now recreational drug of choice for many teenagers, prompting doctors urge pediatricians to screen specifically for their abuse during routine visits. Experts say that the fact that adolescents seek drugs in their medicine cabinets to get high; it is a form of substance abuse. One in 10 teens say they have abused prescription medicines to get high and double, or one in every 5 teens acknowledges having abused a prescription medication, for the same purpose. The youngsters as well as the adults incline towards taking abusive drugs may be due to the following reason early aggressive behavior, lack of parental supervision, substance abuse, availability of drugs and poverty (Abadinsky, 2010).

Prevention programs for adults and families give understandings of drug abuse and its side effects and preventive measures how they get far away from these addictive substances, the program helps in improving the bonding and relationships and parenting skills, training to develop, discuss and strengthen family policy in relation to substance abuse, and information and education about drugs. Rapport can be strengthened through training to improve the capacity of support from parents to children, communication between parents and children, and parental involvement with their children.
