Expressing feelings, dealing with problems, and moving on can be a difficult challenge. This is particularly true in high stress environments. Aside from general responsibilities, this is further aggravated by the downsizing, restructuring, and multi-tasking that is occurring in many of today's businesses.

An expression of emotion may be an important cue that something is interfering with an individual's ability to work effectively. One cannot always control what happens but one can learn to interpret and manage feelings productively. Emotion is complex, and the term has no single universally accepted definition. Emotions are mental states that arise spontaneously, rather than through conscious effort. It is unclear whether animals or all human beings experience emotion. Emotions are physical expressions, often involuntary, related to feelings, perceptions or beliefs about elements, objects or relations between them, in reality or in the imagination.

Emotions are categorized, celebrated, repressed, adored, ignored, and medicated - but rarely, if ever, are they honored. Rarely, if ever, are they seen, as energies in there own right. Emotions are not simply functions of brain chemistry - they are vital flowing forces that can help us communicate with others if used effectively. Problems that may occur when communication is not effective is that one may not have friends anymore because their friends may think the reason they are not trying to communicate is because the do not want to, not realizing that that person may just be shy therefore they may stop communicating with that person if they are not making an effort.
