Description

Mrs. B is a mother of 3 years old baby girl. She is afraid if her daughter gets into the unethical course of activities, once she grows old. So, in order to minimize this risk, she wants her daughter to be circumcised before she gets 5 years old because she wants to hedge the risk of her teenage pregnancy. For this reason, she wants to go to Africa because this practice is very common over there (www.who.int, 2012).

According to the GIBBs Model, this problem can be categorized under the following structure:

Feelings

As a consultant, I had a feeling that it is not good for the health of the baby girl. As a baby, she has no idea what is going to happen with her, which is morally unethical. Although, there decision is the last one, but still, my job is to protect the rights of children (Macnair, 2011). It is motivated by the belief of what is considered as pre marital sexual relations and premarital virginity and premarital fidelity (Ehiri, n.d.). It is assumed to reduce a woman's sexual need and acts.

Evaluation

Female circumcision is a procedure which has no health benefit for girls. This procedure causes bleeding and urinating problems. Later, these problems lead to cyst infection, infertility and increased childbirth complications. In some societies, it is considered to portray a girl as clean and beautiful (www.healthychildren.org, 2012). However, it is entirely dangerous and harmful for health.

According the world health organization's studies and different articles of the doctors related to this profession, it can be concluded that this circumcision in girls, the wound can get infected and may develop as an abscess (Macnair, 2011). They can get fevers, shocks, and if there is a lot of bleeding, it might cause death (www.who.int, 2012).

In addition, they can get a problem going to rest room because this can slow down the flow of urine which can causes infection. They cannot have sex ...
