The word crime comes from the Latin verb. It means criminal intent to commit a foul, or violation of laws and rules pertaining to a particular society, culture or country. Crime as well as rise in gangs of crime is an everyday thing in Mexico. The crimes and gangs are increasing in Mexico since 2009.

Mexico has a history of being the prime producer of drugs such as Marijuana and Methamphetamine which is then sold to United States. Drug and drug trafficking and crime gangs also have existed within Mexican American's since quite long. Immigrants from Mexico who travelled to America are considered the culprits who brought crime in America. Thus these Mexican American families are looked upon with extreme discrimination in America. They arrived in America during Spanish colonial times.

Typical cultural and family response

There are many researches that depict the fact that American Mexican family response to gangs and crimes is similar to any other family's response. Due to discrimination by American Mexican American families are looked down at. This is so as it is assumed that they are the responsible of bringing crime and increasing crimes and gangs in United States.

This is not so as American Mexican families are mainly rooted with strong ethical and moral norms and values. No parent with respect to such family desires that their child indulges in criminal activities. Any child or adult who gets involved in crimes or become a part of crime gangs is in short ruining his/ her career and life.

Mexican Americans are family oriented as well as has strong cultural values. Their culture does not teach them to appreciate or encourage their children to become a part of a crime gang or indulge in crimes.

Cultural and spiritual supports 

Researches bring about the point that Mexican American culture is such that the tension youth goes through is a prime facilitator in directing them towards criminal activities. There is a misconception that since majority of the population Mexican American are indulged in criminal activities, the family's responses to such activities is considered normal.
