Introduction

Logistics is the terminology used for the transportation, storage and processing of products, described as a source of raw materials for production to final point of sale system, where the purchase is made for the final movement. Investment chain partners will also be reviewed.

?Goods transport

?Storage

?Inventory Management

?Overall materials handling

?Related information processing

The main activities of logistics were key to economic development and social welfare. That was 50 years, since logistics has been regarded as key performance criteria of business, independent profession and the main area of ??research for scientists. However, during this period were handled logistics and studied for purely commercial reasons. Monetization and add to the stock market was just the motivation of logistics professionals.

The flip side is that all these years, social and environmental costs, which are key components of the logistics, have been ignored. Only in recent years, concern over the economy has grown slowly.

What is Green Logistics?

The last decade has seen a huge increase in public and governmental concern for the environment. The result was too much pressure on corporations to reduce the environmental impact of their logistics operations. This led to an increase in the variety of impacts in terms of choice of external and distance at which the unwanted consequences are felt. A truck has a negative impact on air quality, noise pollution, leading to accidents and, in general, makes a significant contribution to global warming (Commission of the European Communities, 2001).

The influences of logistics on the change in the weather called for more attention in recent years, partly because it controls the increase in environmental pollution and improve road safety have weakened environmental problems. In addition, recent studies have said that global warming poses a threat far greater and more immediate than previously thought.

Some retailers provide green logistics for other recyclable materials, such as cardboard, metals, and different kinds of plastics by acting as consolidators. The economics of recycling are more favorable if recyclable materials can be easily and cheaply sorted and amassed. Retailers like Wal-Mart have learned that they can convert waste-hauling expenses into revenue streams by handling their own recyclable waste. Rocky Mountain Recycling has made that easier with an innovative “Super Sandwich Bale,” in which various kinds of waste materials are collected and layered into standard cardboard compacters. These materials are then easily separated by type, cardboard, metal or plastic, when the “sandwich” arrives at a recycling facility.

Secondary markets are another form of green logistics (Jenkins, 2006).

Businesses such as liquidators and secondhand stores and community sales and flea markets deal in used or surplus goods at prices that typically are well below initial retail prices. Organizations like thrift shops collect and resell used clothing and household goods, while providing jobs for disadvantaged or special-needs people. Most garments can still be recycled at the ends of their useful lives. The majority of textile wastes can be recovered as usable fiber, and fabrics like ...
