Chapter 1: Introduction

Background of the Study

This study will focus on small and medium scale businesses in the province of Toronto Canada their awareness, understanding and acceptance of the principles of Holistic Marketing. Holistic marketing is changes in business' environment, due to globalization and increasing human aspirations for sustainable development, result in new challenges for their owners, managers and co-workers (Marshall 2004, pp 44-78).

Beside dangers of global competition there are also emerging numerous new opportunities. If businesses want to take advantage of them, they must innovate constantly in accordance with changes in their environments, and/or cause changes, while considering the principles of morally acceptable operating, sustainable development and care for the well-being of society, to which they belong as will be researched in Toronto. (Litvak 2000, pp.1-12)

This study will also reveal that are businesses in Torornto ready for that, are they successfully exploiting new opportunities, and are they, regarding ever increasing influence of societal and environmental problems on companies, requisitely holistically planning and implementing their business' strategies? On the other hand, in the current dialogue customers' choice is equated with human freedom, which hardly includes (requisite) holism.

Research Statement

“A qualitative and quantitative research on understanding, awareness and ready acceptance of the principles of Holistic Marketing as business philosophy by the small and medium scale businesses in the province of Toronto.”

Aim of the Study

The aim of the study is to

Research the literature on Holistic marketing and its integration in context to Canadian ethos making it specified to Toronto small and medium enterprise.

Requisite Holism, Sustainable Enterprise, Humankind's Future and Marketing in Holistic Marketing approach.

Limitation of the Study

The area of research in Canada by in itself is too extensive and unrealistic for a research enterprise. There fore this research will therefore focus more specifically on Toronto.

A possible area that will be explored is amongst small and medium scale businesses in the province of Toronto their awareness, understanding and ready acceptance of the principles of Holistic Marketing as business philosophy that spells success.

Methodology

As this study is qualitative and quantitative research both, it will encompass both type of methodologies it will be exploring literature on holistic marketing and its principle and business principle. And a survey of the businesses regarding the awareness of small and medium scale businesses in the province of Toronto regarding Holistic Marketing (McDougall 2003, pp.59-82).

Chapter 2: Literature review
