Introduction

This essay is about the Human Resource practices of any organization. I am choosing Diageo. Diageo is the world's leading premium drinks business with an outstanding collection of beverage alcohol brands across spirits, wine and beer categories. These brands include: Smirnoff, Johnnie Walker, Captain Morgan, Baileys, J&B, José Cuervo, Tanqueray, Guinness, Crown Royal, Beaulieu Vineyard and Sterling Vineyards wines, and Bushmills Irish whiskey. Diageo is a global company, trading in over 180 markets around the world (Argyris, 2006).

The company is listed on both the London Stock Exchange (DGE) and the New York Stock Exchange (DEO). Human resource management (HRM) is the strategic and coherent approach to the management of an organization's most valued assets - the people working there who individually and collectively contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the business. The terms "human resource management" and "human resources" (HR) have largely replaced the term "personnel management" as a description of the processes involved in managing people in organizations (Argyris, 2006). In simple sense, HRM means employing people, developing their resources, utilizing, maintaining and compensating their services in tune with the job and organizational requirement.

Human Resource Development (HRD) is the framework for helping employees develops their personal and organizational skills, knowledge, and abilities (Beruvides, Koelling, 2001). Human Resource Development includes such opportunities as employee training, employee career development, performance management and development, coaching, succession planning, key employee identification, tuition assistance, and organization development.

Diageo focuses on all aspects of Human Resource Development by developing the most superior workforce so that the organization and individual employees can accomplish their work goals in service to customers (Beruvides, Koelling, 2001).

Human Resource Development in Diageo is formal such as in classroom training, a college course, or an organizational planned change effort. Or, Human Resource Development can be informal as in employee coaching by a manager (Blackler, 2005). Healthy organizations believe in Human Resource Development and cover all of these bases. Of course, that applies literally to us as a pump manufacturer, but also in its figurative sense to the KIWI PUMPS team. We are in constant motion to improve established designs, to increase the benefit to the customer by innovative product, service and quality, but mainly to make innovations with new ideas, securing further advantages on the market for ourselves, proving our competence and securing and increasing our market success (Blackler, Crump, McDonald, 2008). From employment laws and hiring practices to managing performance, enforcing discipline and ensuring patient satisfaction and safety, every practice needs well-defined and painless-to-implement HR policies and procedures (Argyris, 2006).
