Introduction

This report outlines a key change initiative led by human resources in an Australian based company, Redpath Mining. The report will provide start with introduction of the company and key strategic objectives sought by it. It will be followed by the change initiative that has been recommended and justification will be provided along with the current capabilities of the human resource to handle the initiative. It will provide overview of the plan which will be followed to bring about the change initiative.

Brief Overview

In 1968, the company was established first as a Pearsone Bridge partition, from the extraction of Eron Pvt. Ltd. That dated back more than 40 years. Through an acquisition, Eroc Redpath joined the group in September 2008. Besides having an office in Perth, the Brisbane based company has projects in all states of Australia as well as across the world. The range of services offered by Redpath Mining Australia includes:

Development of access to underground coal mines;

Underground civil engineering projects (road, water, railway, sewer and underground storage caves) providing, on the one hand, conventional drilling and the use of explosives or, on the other hand, continuous mining methods using tunnel boring machines or shearer.

Strategic Objectives

The Strategic objectives of Redpath Mining Australia are:

Contribute to the design, implementation and monitoring of public policies aimed at sustainable development of mining in Australia and strengthen its contribution to the country, through the development of studies, reports and participation in national and international activities.

Generate statistics, information and analysis, timely, public, and reliable, which contributes to the transparency of relevant mining markets, facilitates making informed decisions of actors, private and public, and comply with legal requirements.

Safeguarding the interests of the state in its mining companies, top executives informing them of the results of the audit and evaluation conducted, and investment management companies, and advising the Ministries of Mining and Finance to prepare and follow the budgets of those companies.

Leading a New Change Initiative

HR Led change initiative in Redpath Mining that has been suggested is in fact related to human resource department of the company. A need has been realised to critically review into their HR management practices in relation to Recruitment. Recently, they have been awarded a new project which has resulted in the requirement for hiring a massive staff of 250 employees. This report has reviewed the entire company as a whole but specifically QLD branch.

Justification for undertaking this initiative

Redpath hires people for different task and this hiring comprises of staff coming from diverse background and culture with varied experiences. This is the reason the company have been able to accumulate a human resource based from almost all other industries and countries. Redpath has vast practical knowledge of his primary activities. Unfortunately, mining is sometimes very difficult to create a system in which all services would work with consistency and uniformity.
