Introduction

The businesses in the present age function in a systematic manner and with advanced technology. They are divided into various departments which manage their functions and activities in a systematic flow. The management in most of the business organizations has undergone profound changes by absorbing the various technologies such as Just-in-Time, Total Quality Management and Theory of Constraints (Manzoor, 2012). Now it is high time, that the businesses are shifting their production, operations and supervision procedures to the implications of information technology. Similarly, PP Corporations has been dominating the market of disposable paper plates and other supplies for the years. It is a fact that, rapidly changing technology as well as business environment has opened new doors of doing business in a radically different way (Manzoor, 2012).

PP Corporations, in this regard, has recognized the importance of Information Technology and is willing to transform its existing MS Excel based databases into a relational database - MS Access. PP Corporation believes that this transformation will bring multiple business benefits to the company in terms of cost reduction, efficiency in performance, active customer management and significant reduction in production cycle.

Problem Statement

Currently, PP Corporation is facing a growing challenge from the competitive market due to arrival of new entrants in the market. This situation has affected the business in terms of increasing current cost, supplier power and production cycle (Manzoor, 2012). In order to respond market situation, PP Corporation is willing to incorporate latest technologies to not just receive benefits of technology but also increase entry barrier for potential entrants, create a challenging environment for competitors, maintain its customer-base and monitor its procurement and production.

Purpose

The purpose of this research proposal is to identify the benefits of Information Technology including benefits of relational databases like MS Access.

Information Technology

Information Technology (IT) has proved to be a vital resource to create business value (Kohli and Devaraj, 2004). It also has the capability to renovate the nature of products, processes, companies, industries, and even competitive environment of the industry (Porter and Millar, 1985). In addition, Information and communication technologies san be seen as major source to provide strategic tools to any organization (Buhails, 2004). In fact, if IT systems are properly implemented in any company, it open doors of more opportunities for that company.
