In today's world the only thing that is constant is change. In order to meet your steps with rest of the world it is imperative to adopt these changes. But adoption of change is not an easy thing especially in organizations. It becomes difficult in an organization to adopt and accept changes because in an organization many different people work together in a particular setting and whenever change is introduced to them they resist these changes. Managers adopt variegated forms, techniques and method to implement these changes. Bringing a change in an organization affects each and every aspect of the organization. We have covered many topics related to change management but this paper discusses impact of implementing and managing change on culture of the organization and barriers to implementing change.

Impact of change management on organizational culture

Organizational culture can be defined as the belief, values and system that employees of an organization adhere. Culture of an organization is embedded in every task of the employees that they perform. This is one of the core reasons why implementation of change is resisted by employees. (Dooley & Van de Ven, 1999, 372)

Whenever any change is implemented in the organization it has great impact on culture of the organization. As it is understood that it is the culture of the organization that defines the philosophy of conducting each and every task of the organization so, it is imperative to alter culture with the implementation of change in the organization.

Methods of managing culture with the implementation of change

Culture is the nub of an organization and it requires a great deal of attention from managers whenever they attempt to bring and implement change in the organization. Managers can adopt different methods and approaches in order to manage change. This paper would be discussing one of the methods of managing culture along with change management. This method comprises of following three stages:

Stage1: Know your culture

It is significant for the managers that before altering and adjusting culture within the organization to know the current state of the culture. So, the first step in managing culture is to know your existing culture. Mangers should have extensive knowledge and information about the existing culture. Knowledge and information about the existing culture enables a manager to know the components of current culture that may get affected by implementing change in the organization. In order to know the culture following model designed by Gerry Johnson would lend a hand in understanding existing culture. (Gerry, 1992, 28)

With the help of this model a manger can have hand full of information about the culture of the organization. The manager should consider each petal from the above model one by one and analyze it in this way a manger would have complete information about the organizational culture.
