Occupational Hygiene

Introduction

Occupational hygiene program is one of the activities needed to ensure the availability of skills and abilities of the workforce. It is very important for maintaining physical and psychological conditions of staff. Occupational health and safety work is two closely related activities aimed at guaranteeing personal and work materials capable of maintaining the health status of employees. From the viewpoint of human resource management, health and safety of employees is one of the main bases for the preservation of the workforce. Organizations should have a decent health plan, prevention objectives defined, optimal working conditions, and a workplace safety plan depending on your needs.

In building the image of the company or in the maintenance of the good will of the company on one hand where marketing and financial condition of the company plays an important role in the other hand measures taken by the company to maintain health and safety concerns also play an indispensable part. While evaluating the value of a company people and analysts observe measures taken by the firm to provide a work place that is safe, secure and risk free for the health and well being of the employees. If a company fails to address the issue of providing a safe workplace and it recognized by the public or analysts then this aspect can ruin the reputation of the organization and the firm may have to face financial loss (Soediono, 2002). In every industry, according to the nature of the work government formulates certain rules and regulations to provide a safe and secure workplace to the employees. Organizations should embrace all these rules and regulation set by the government. The human resource department of the organization is generally performs the task of observing the compliance of the organization to the rules and regulation of the government (Goldberg, 1994). It is the responsibility of an organization to accept the responsibility of providing a safe place and remain ethically concerned about it (Lin, 2001).

In order to provide a safe and secure workplace to the employees organizations generally conduct the process of hazard analysis or assessment of the possible hazards. In this process, different methods and tools used to recognize, identify and assess various hazards. With the advancement of the technology, increased social expectation or increased requirements from the side of the regulatory authority urges an organization to devise the process of hazard assessment that enable them to reach the source of the hazards (Grebner, 2010). The process of hazard control and assessment considered as the dynamic process for organizations. In a hazard assessment, process personnel that measure the risk of the possible hazards is usually comprises or a group of managers while the group of people who actually exposed to these hazards are groups of workers. So, this process collaborates with both the group of managers and workers in order to identify possible hazards at the work place (Burke, 2010).
