Adverse Effects of Texting on People

Nielsen reports show that American teenagers approximately send and receive 2,272 messages per month. 40% cell users actively used SMS in 2006 at North America. In 2004, almost 500 billion messages send and received by users making it almost 85 text messages per person in the world. Many experts came to the conclusion that text messaging has bad impact especially on teenagers. Teenagers are not paying attention at schools; during classes they are busy in texting to friends. This leads to unsatisfactory performance of students in school. Moreover, many students wake up till mid of the night just chatting with their friends on cell phone. According to doctors this could have a negative impact on the health of students. Other serious problems may take lives of people who carelessly use a cell phone. Some people are so much involved in texting that they forget where they are heading. People forget about their surroundings, and they don't know what is happening around them (Ogren, 2008).

Statistics are really shocking about 6 million people injured themselves last year as they walk in lamp posts, garbage cans, and bollards. Out of 10 people more than one injured themselves due to “walk and text” habit in U.K. injuries included simple scratches to a broken nose and skulls. The person while walking and texting, suddenly bang his head in lamp post looks a real idiot. Different studies also revealed that 63% people who text while walking lost their way. They are so much involved in their work that they don't know what is happening in their surroundings (Ogren, 2008).
