Poverty and Pollution

Determine the ethical implications………………………

The businesses that conduct operations in the third world countries do not consciously or intentionally degrade the natural environment of these countries, but as a consequence of their operations or industrial operations, the nature and the resources of the country are significantly polluted (Fieser, 2011). According to business ethics, the operations should not affect the environment of the country in which it is conducting the operations.

In my opinion, the business must not conduct its operations in the third world country, considering that it would be better to pollute that country, in comparison to their own country, because those people have lower value of life. The businesses must incorporate the environmental and pollution control tactics while conducting business operations in the third world countries, because all people must have uniform access to healthy and livable environment.

Suggest the reason a business may……………………..

The major reason for any business to conduct operations in a third world country is to prevent the pollution and the waste materials from his own country, where the people demand healthy and cleans living environment. Such businesses consider that the pollution should be moved to the low income countries which are not as civilized as their own, and hence less polluted. One reason behind the action is that the people consider that as the peer countries are less populated, there would be little harm in polluting them as compared to their own countries that are highly populated and already polluted. American people also justify their action of conducting business operations in the low income countries and polluting them, based on the theory that value of a person life increases with the increase of per capita income. Depending on this theory, it is estimated that one American's life is worth that of hundred Kenyan lives.

It has been said that pollution is the……………………….

Pollution and degradation of environment are often considered as the price of progress, this is an accepted fact over past many years. It is a fact, that the industries which bring progress to the country, and prosperity to its people, significantly pollute the natural resources of the country. It is also true that eliminating the pollution responsible factors are often costly and more businesses cannot afford to reduce the pollution risk (Kramer, 1983).

Despite providing enough progress to the country, the pollution which is produced as a result of industrial and business operations have been raising serious health concerns in the people of developed countries, such as China and US. There is a need of conducting environment protection and pollution programs, in order to make the business and industry managers about the pollution prevention techniques. When the pollution prevention and environmental programs would be practically implemented, it would become possible to restore the natural resources to their initial state and hence the people would be able to enjoy healthy life style and safe living environment.
