Introduction

On the international scale, a general trend away from models relies on psychoanalytic theory to focus on other models that integrate a plurality of systems theory and practical experiences. Several models emphasize the individual therapy and resolution of problems. They are action-oriented prevention models through intervention in times of crisis to define problems through behavior modification and short-term planned focused on the task. Others use systems theory and theories of communication that refine the notions of causality and responsibility, focus attention on the process, and on the balance of the system while maintaining its stability. The needs of psychosocial analysis are becoming evident as the changes retake place in the psychosocial development of the theories and applications (Mosak, Harold, Kopp, Richard, 1972). These theories help to suggest the intervention strategies that best suit the patients. The aim is to identify the best course of action for every individual case.

The paper represents the case of Ruthie Williamson who is going through psychological stress and seeking expert consultation. The purpose of this paper is to identify the social work models that best suit the case of Ruthie Williamson. The models selected for this paper is the Ecological Life Model Approach.

Selected Model for Assessment

The model selected for this case is the ecological life model approach. Carla B. Germain developed this model in 1980. The model explains the social work practice in terms of the transition of life, interpersonal dynamics and the environment. Applied to Ruthie's situation, the model holds that the different disturbances arise as a result of her transactions with the stressful environment that was prevalent during her early childhood till adolescent. This is why the models hold that there are the interrelationships to the transaction between a stressful environment and children who observe the psychological problems (Ballou, 1995). Ruthie is currently undergoing a conflict where she has the opportunity to have a family that she always dreamed. On the other hand, she also feels the responsibility towards her daughter to complete her education and have what Ruthie herself could not. Besides, she also wants to get rid of her old behaviors that are addiction to Dexedrine. However, the internal conflict does not let her be peaceful and she spends most of the time being irritated and stressful. What Ruthie needs is the intervention strategy that involves motivating her to revert to abnormal behavior and enjoy her family life (Heppner, Casas, Carter, Stone, 2000).

Personal Assumptions of the Case

Ruthie came across various sociological and cognitive setbacks during her early life. The environment that she received was not friendly which included the financial limitations of her family and carelessness of her parents. The condition became even more crucial by the mockery she faced due to her chubbiness. All the factors created the psychological issues that Ruthie is still fighting. The emotional challenges that Ruthie is going through require an intervention where she feels comfortable about communicating the issues.
