Introduction

The medical care system of America is greatly concerned for the problems related to the diseases and infections spreading through sexual intercourse. Awareness programs and treatments are being conducted in order to prevent the increase in such infections and to help patient already suffering from the sexually transmitted infections. Today, most cases that are being brought up for the STI are teens and young adults of age less than 26 years old. Gonorrhea is one of the most common infections that are being found in teens and young adults. Although there are certain complications that may rise from the infection still not the symptoms and indications of the infection may create a problem for its diagnosis.

Discussion

Gonorrhea is a common disease that is transmitted through sexual interaction. It is one of the commonly known sexually transmitted infections (STI). Gonorrhea is caused by a certain bacteria called as Neisseria gonorrhea. It is a very common bacterium that can infect anyone who has any type of sex. The majority areas that are being infected by gonorrhea include the vagina, penis, anus and mouth.

Gonorrhea grows in the warm, moist areas of the human body. This also includes that tube that carries urine out of the body known (urethra). The infection can also be found in uterus, cervix and fallopian tubes in the female body. According to research it is said that the bacteria can also be found in the human eye.

A law has been passed by the United States of America in every state of the country by the health care system of the country. The objective of the law is that patients should receive all the necessary health care services along with their partners once they are diagnosed with the bacteria (Miller, 2004).

Causes

The disease would most likely infect the human body if someone has intercourse with several partners. The unsafe intercourse is also a reason for the infection if the partner is not using condoms or any safety precautions. This also happens if the partner as a past history of being infected by some sexually transmitted diseases. Heavy usage of drugs and alcohol can also increase the chances of being infected with gonorrhea (Weinstock, 2000).

Indications

In women the indications of gonorrhea usually happen in two to six days after the infection. This however is different of men as the indications may take over a month to appear. There are also cases that the patient is completely unaware of being infected with the disease. Due to this the patient would not seek any medical treatment and is at a higher risk of engaging into more complications and passing the infection to other bodies as well.

Men

The indications that happen in men include the burning and feeling of pain when urinating. There is also an increase in the urinating frequency of the infected patient and a discharge of some sort from the penis.
