SLEEPING DIFFICULTIES

Sleeping Difficulties

Sleeping Difficulties

Introduction

Behavioural and emotional troubles are among the most significant reasons for children's functional disability. The behavioural trouble particularly in pre-school children is high. According to one research, the occurrence of such troubles in children of age 3 was 10%. According to another study, 7% of children with ages between 3-4 years showed serious behaviour troubles. (Capsi, 1996, 1033)

Although many researches have verified the consistency of issues of behaviour over the period, it is now understood that these issues have originated in childhood and adolescent. Therefore, the results show that the environment of the care giver is especially significant in the first few years of a child. It predicts external disorders at the time of admission to school (Charlton et al. 1995, p273-280). The environment of care giver poses too many risks especially to parents, which is inconsistent and negative. The negative parenting behaviour at home in the first 18 to 24 months of a child's life causes serious behavioural issues at the age of 5, as stated by another research.

Research Evidence

Insomnia is referred to as symptom, characterized by frequent insufficient sleep or inability to sleep due to dysfunction of Zangfu organs, and qi blood deficiency in the organism. Most epidemiological surveys in western countries indicate that about 33% people each year have dipsomania; in mild conditions, they have difficulty to fall asleep while in severe conditions, they lie awake all night. Along with the quickened modern life rhythm, the occurrence of insomnia tends to increase, severely influencing people's lives, work and somatopsychic health (Barlow et al 2002, p223-233).

At present, there are many drugs and methods for treatment of insomnia, but various adverse effects including drug dependence, addiction, etc cause a lot of trouble, hence, no ideal therapeutic remedies or methods have been found up to now (Charlton et al. 1995, p273-280). After studying it for many years, the authors created a set of scientific theory and effective therapeutic method for insomnia ("needling method for tranquillization and calming the mind") a proper combination of acupoints (acupoint prescriptions), amount of stimulating and other aspects. Many years' clinical practice have proved that this method has a satisfactory therapeutic effect. In the present paper, the theoretical intention of "the needling method for tranquillization and calming the mind" for treatment of insomnia is introduced based on the cause of disease, pathogenesis, therapeutic methods, characteristics of prescription composition, etc.

About one-third of Children have symptoms of sleeping difficulty but less than 10% of those are recognised by their doctors. Sleeping difficulty tends to boost with age and sways about 40 per hundred of women and 30 per hundred of men (Barlow et al 2002, p223-233). sleeping difficulty encompasses not only adversity dropping asleep but furthermore rousing up to early and not being adept to drop back asleep (sleep-maintenance sleeping difficulty), common awakenings, and rousing up feeling unrepressed.
