Stem Cell Research

Abstract

In this study we try to explore the concept of “Stem Cell Research” in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on “Stem Cell Research” and its relation with “Treatment of Diseases”. The research also analyzes many aspects of “Stem Cell Research” and tries to gauge its effect on “Humans”. Finally the research describes various factors which are responsible for “Stem Cell Research” and tries to describe the overall effect of “Treatment of Diseases”.

Stem Cell Research Legislation

Introduction

History

Stem cell research (adult) on human beings traces its roots in 1960s and initially achieved success in 1968 in the treatment and cure of a patient who was suffering from severe (CID) Combined Immunodeficiency Disorder. Since then adult stem cell treatment method has been successfully employed on the treatment and cure of patients suffering from Leukemia and Immunodeficiency. Many medical professionals have shown their support for the urgency, necessity, nature and scope of stem cell research. If this treatment method can cure illness and diseases such as HIV/AIDS, Heart Disease, Leukemia or Cancer and can possibly save and preserve human lives, The Federal Government of United States should release more funds and resources towards more in-depth stem cell research for the betterment and improvement of treatment methodologies. According to some proponents of stem cell research, opponents of stem cell research that are against using this method for treatment purposes will one day find themselves in a dire need to use stem cell research for saving human lives and advancing research in the area of lethal disease treatment such as HIV/AIDS.

There are some documented success stories that tells us about the usefulness of stem cell treatment. For instance, a German HIV patient got transplantation of stem cells as part of his drug rehabilitation treatment. The donor who donated stem cells to that German patient had a rare variant gene that is known for its resistance to the deadly diseases. That patient was also suffering from Leukemia and after receiving stem cell transplantation, his leukemia was also cured successfully. Moreover, research in embryonic stem cell is not considered ethical by numerous medical professionals and pubic speakers on the subject because apparently a life has been taken during the process. A hollow thin walled structure known as Blastocyst that is formed in early embryonic developmental stage contains a group or cluster of cells known as the inner mass from which embryo is developed. The cells' outer layers contributes in the development of placenta and some other supporting tissues which are required for the development of fetal within uterus whilst the mass of inner cell contributes in the development of body tissues (Wobus & Löser, 2011).

Literature Review

The main controversy is that ESCR (Embryonic Stem Cell Research) is not considered pro-life. ESCR gives false and empty promises to the patients while kills a human embryo in the process. It is also considered dead end research due to several reasons. Moreover, its scope its scope is apparently limited to the successful treatment of lab ...
