Sustainable Development

Introduction

The design and development has many aspects for which we need immense devotion and focus. The question, which arises, is that what elements we need to focus more? In the last two decades, we have seen a growing realization that the current prevailing model of development is unsustainable. In other words, we are living beyond means. From the loss of biodiversity with the negative effect, our consumption patterns are on the environment and climate. Our way of living is placing an increased burden on our planet. Currently, the crucial idea is to promote sustainable development through a balance between economic, environmental and social. To achieve this, several countries have adopted special policies to conserve the environment, which operate through the development of innovative products and processes that reduce their impact on the environment while meeting the needs of consumers. Therefore, the basic concept and aim behind the sustainable design and development is to educate and enable people by providing the structure and tools to value their environment and climate and at the same time 'satisfy their needs and enjoy a better quality of life' without creating problems for our future generations and ensuring the same quality of life for them or even better.

Here, we are focusing on the word 'sustainable' for the use of biodegradable plastic bottles vs. glass bottles, which focuses on both aspects “reduction and measures for future prevention” the sustainable design and development implies the fact that the industries, which are the major contributors of waste must incorporate this sustainable design and development for their future and current production facilities. There is no doubt that it appears difficult and overstated as it involves huge costs for the industries if they go for the implementation of these biodegradable plastic bottles and glass bottles sustainable designs and developments.

Discussion

Sustainable development is defined as development that meets the needs of present generations without compromising those of future generations. Thus, sustainable development is not only to address environmental problems, as often discussed in a simplified and distorted, but essentially a coherent and holistic approach that integrates economic and social aspects, along with environment. In this decade, particularly as it has to do with packaging in bottles and jars, has developed the use of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) material that is moving to glass and PVC in the packaging market. Many of the advantages of plastic products become a disadvantage when we throw away, either because it is disposable container, or when we throw plastic objects because we have broken. While plastics can be reused or recycled in their vast majority, the fact is that today waste is a difficult problem mainly in large cities. It is a costly and complex for the municipalities responsible for collection and disposal of waste, since the amount of packaging must be added the volume they represent. Plastics are the key to sustainable development. Once the plastic products end their life cycle they can be transformed into other useful items for the society (Andrady, ...
