Introduction

The T Mobile is one of largest global brands in 21st century. This report will analyze T Mobile South Africans current and future sources of competitive advantage by examining internal factors such as company's resources, and external factors such as competitors and marketplace conditions. (Yadav 1993)Recommendations will then be presented to leverage and optimize our resources and best align our capabilities with external opportunities and threats by identifying future optimal strategic options for South African Group.

T Mobile (The former Westel 900), The oldest mobile telecommunication business of U.K was launched on 31st Marc 1994, with an initial capital of 5.4 billion HUF. The owners of business had raised this capital to 'till year of 1997. The investment was supported by Citibank and CIB.

'Till end of 1996, Westel won qualification of ISO 9001. It had number of 270,000 subscribers. (Lapuerta 1999:129)

The mechanical equipments of Westel were conveyed by Ericsson.

Mission statement:

T Mobile expects market to grow to between 440 million- 460 million units in 2003 overall. However business analysts generally think to be around 435 million in 2003 financial year.

T Mobile believe that Europe important market, where consumers who acts update their listeners in 2003. Mobile phone users will try to replace their old phones available with the new generation of mobile phones at the moment with digital camera / display capabilities. The confirmation of this trend in the industry through sheer volume of people in new MMS (Multimedia Messaging Services), 20,000 for T-Mobile in Germany alone and 30,000 in the UK for Vodafone, all in 6 months. The popularity of SMS (Short Message Service) was the main cause for this new type of messaging. If 3G is introduced, it is all the possibilities that these new phones and have more. But time is of 3G will be included in MMS market generally accepted to be and the cost of the service will have reduced.

Manufacturers of mobile communications such as T Mobile & Sony Ericcson, along with carriers T-Mobile, Orange, Vodafone and O2 expect that the introduction of new MMS services will allow them growth goals and provide new and untapped resource of revenue from increased numbers. Although these new MMS service is certainly cause the boom currently flagging market, it should not be relied upon to be strong as the main source of income or sales pitch.
