The Six Days of Creation

Introduction

Difference of opinion exists with many doctrinal issues when it comes to Christianity, but six days of creation are one of the most controversial topics when it comes to surrounding the days of creation and the physical age of our Earth. The Christians hold the view that our earth came into existence in six days which were 24 hours long around six to ten thousand years ago. This theory was propagated in the first chapter of the Bible which stated that all the creatures, heaven and earth were created in six days. Well the question arises here that were these six days literal or just a figure of speech to denote the passage of time? The following paper discusses the views about the six days of creation and identifies its significance.

Discussion

Those people who believe in Bible also believe in the concept of Genesis which states that the earth, heaven and everything was created in literally six days of the original length that is twenty-four hours. The reason that people support this theory is that it is in black and white in the Bible and going against what is inscribed in the Bible is opposing the teachings of the Lord. Well here the question arises that whether this is what is actually written in the bible? According to the scripture it is said that on day fourth God ordered to lighten the sky, to segregate night and day from each other (Anonymous, 2002). He made sources such as sun, moon and stars to lighten up the sky and to separate light from the dark. We are told that on the first day, light was separated from the darkness, so what actually happened on the fourth day? One suggestion is that, God created the stars, moon and sun and other heavenly bodies millions of years ago but caused them to be visible on the fourth day of creation. This can be suggested that the six days of creation should not be taken literally.

What is Genesis?

In order to cover the basics, the word Genesis means the beginning. The word which belongs to Hebrew denotes that the book is the bar Rah sheet, which is also the first word said in the holy bible which actually symbolizes 'start' or the moment where and how everything had been created (Anonymous, 2002). This word actually denotes birth when God created everything and the birth of our universe became visible.
